Bringing Warmth to Nemours/DuPont’s Family Resource Center

When a child gets sick, the hospital becomes a home away from home to the parents and the patients. No one understands this better than the staff at Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children, which is why they constructed the Family Resource Center where parents could get a reprieve from the hospital room but still be close to their child. In order to add warmth to the space as well as durability, Parterre’s InGrained: Oriental Cherry vinyl wood plank flooring was selected.

“The idea behind the Family Resource Center was to create a respite environment, where parents could get away from the hospital room,” says Associate Administrator Amy Rogers. The center includes a living room, library area, kitchenette, laundry, three single-occupancy sleep rooms, two private showers and two education rooms. Installed in the high traffic areas such as walkways, Parterre’s resilient vinyl plank flooring creates a durable surface that is able to withstand dirt and food spills. It also meets the hospital standards for cleaning and sanitation. One of the strongest appeals of Parterre’s premium LVT to the healthcare industry is that it’s inherently impervious to microbial life; it doesn’t support fungal or bacterial growth and meets or exceeds indoor air quality standards. Thus the use of Parterre’s Oriental Cherry vinyl wood plank flooring was a natural choice for the Family Resource Center.

Senior Interior Designer Madeline Fucile of Mitchell Associates, who designed the Family Resource Center says, “We chose Parterre for its performance and color. Even though it’s in the heart of the hospital, the Family Resource Center needed to feel more like a residence. The wood-flooring look makes it seem like a home setting. Plus, it’s comfortable underfoot and does not vibrate like other hard surfaces would.”

Parterre is proud to be a part of the Family Resource Center at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and hopes that this space will prove to be an oasis for families for years to come.
